It has taken quite some time for me to mentally process my recent trip to Dominica. The whole experience, from start to finish, was a whirlwind. Another long night of insomnia induced twitter surfing somehow quickly and inexplicably led to me and one of my best friends finding ourselves on a Caribbean island with not much more than our cameras and a goal to explore and tell the story of Wai’tu Kubuli. It was an experience that I will not forget. As a photographer, I would like to say that is because I took some amazing photos. As a lover of travel I would like to say that it was because I was able to see a beautiful tropical island that I have never been to before. As a friend, I would like to say that it was because I got to spend some time with my brother who I miss often. And the adventurer in me would like to say that it was because I conquered a 7 hour hike out to the Boiling Lake.
Truth be told, as great as all those things are, none can hold a torch to what my heart feels for the amazing people of Dominica and how they shaped my experience. From day one I was blow away by the passion, insight, pride and HAPPINESS  of everyone whom I crossed paths with. Something that I wish I could say was more common place in this world.
I know this may sound cliche, but even months later, I am at a loss for words to describe what I feel about the people I was lucky enough to share life with for a brief moment. But I’ll say a few regardless, knowing they fall far short.
Cynthia… Thank you for your guidance and care and knowledge. You are one of the strongest, most bighearted people I have ever met. It was such a pleasure to spend 7 hours in the jungle with you. I would have done 7 more by your side.
Sheldon, Kurt, and Nixon… You guys are fucking rad! Felt like I had known you forever. Thank you very much for all the support and motivation. Keep doing your thing out there!
Pomp… Thank you and your family for welcoming us into your home. My time spent up Perdu Temps was one of the most inspirational moments of my life. Your kindness, love and perspective was something I will hold in my heart forever. I truly can not thank you enough for that.
Niki… Plain and simple, none of this would have happened without all of your hard work and love for Dominica. Thank you.
Last but not least, MY MAN, Melvin Mellow!!! What can I say? A tear came to my eye when you called Van and I “locals” after 3 days. Ha! Seriously though, my experiences on Dominica would have been completely different had I not been fortunate enough to have met you. Thank you for putting up with us and never once stirring us wrong. We owe it all to you. I am happy to be able to call you a friend and I hope things worked out with that bartender ;)
I would also like to thank the other amazingly talented people that were out there with me. Van Ditthavong (love you homie). Trent Hilborn. Josh Becker. Sam Horine. Alex Klasinsky. Jill Mann & Kyla Tretheway (@ourwildabandon). Sarah Jensen. Amy Hobbs. Lisa Bettany. Tyler Miller. It was a pleasure to get to know, be inspired by and share this with you all. Until next time!!! First round of Kubuli is on me.
Michael Kraabel and Nathan Eide… I guess you guys are alright too. JOKES!  Thank you for even considering us. Honored and grateful more than I can ever tell you

And the adventurer in me would like to say that it was because I conquered a 7 hour hike out to the Boiling Lake

Outtakes from a recent shoot for American Way.
Stuntman, Dean Smith, was sincerely one of my favorite subjects to date. I could have listened to stories and talked about life with him all day. Thank you so much for your time and hospitality, Dean. It was true pleasure to meet you.
